Ukraine – England (Internet Only)

So on Saturday evening for the 1st time ever, England will be shown exclusively on the internet playing against the Ukraine.  I know that England have already qualified for the World Cup, and that their might treat it more like a friendly, but why didn’t any English TV channel pick it up?  The reason is that they didn't want to pay the asking price.  I don’t know what the price was was, but I assume it would have been a lot.

So on Saturday instead, we have to either pay to have it streamed to our computers or listen to it on BBC Radio 5 Live.  I know which one I will be doing.

To get coverage of the match you have to visit this site:- http://www.ukrainevengland.com/.  I don’t trust this site, and neither does Zone alarm Force field.  The fact also that the site only supports PayPal means that anyone who doesn’t know what PayPal is, then they cannot get access to the match if they want to watch it.

This in my view is a bad idea, Why didn’t they just put it onto the pay-per-view channels on Sky or Virgin.  They would have no doubt got triple the customers, that they will get for the internet stream.

If this becomes a success then I believe it will open the gate for more sport to be shown exclusively only on the internet.
